Martha
Jo Braycich and BH Tan appointed as StaySail Faculty-members
Brussels, 16 September 2005.
With the aim of supporting the growth of the
PhD-candidates at the School, and of the program-participants and alumni
in general, the Thierry Graduate School of Leadership announces that two
program-participants, Martha Jo Braycich, and BH Tan, have been
appointed as StaySail faculty-members. The term 'StaySail' is used
specifically at the Thierry Graduate School. It is equivalent to that of
adjunct lecturer or adjunct professor in other universities or colleges.
The term 'program-participant' is also preferred over the more classical
'student'.
Martha Jo Braycich is the Director,
Communications and Media Relations, at Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia.
Her career also includes experience in the corporate, international
trade association, and non-governmental sectors as well as in
journalism. Throughout her career she has developed and managed a wide
range of multicultural communications programs. She also has an interest
and expertise in Eastern Europe. In her current position at Special
Olympics Europe/Eurasia, a respected international NGO that provides
sports training and competition for people with intellectual
disabilities, she oversees the strategic communications of a region that
includes 57 countries. She also manages organizational development
projects in the Balkans and the Caucuses. Martha Jo was born in the
United States, has lived in numerous countries throughout her life, and
is currently based in Brussels, Belgium. She holds a BA in political
science from Boston University (USA), and an MA in international
relations from Schiller College. Prior to undertaking her PhD studies
she completed the coursework of a program previously offered by our
Graduate School at another institute. She earned the post-graduate
certificates in leadership and change management from both institutions
(in 2002 and 2003). As a PhD candidate at our Graduate School Martha Jo
is blending her doctoral curriculum with her professional career. The
focus of her action-oriented research is on the effectiveness of
NGO-leadership in Russia. Martha Jo attended our 2004 Summer program,
and the 2005 one, in which she was a guest lecturer on "Project
leadership in a post-conflict country: Creating
shared vision and cooperation – the case of Special Olympics Bosnia
and Herzegovina."
BH Tan is a leading executive coach and
leadership consultant in Asia. He specializes in leadership development
in culturally-diverse environments. As an accredited and certified coach
he has to this date successfully delivered 900+ hours of professional
coaching with corporate clients. He leads his own consultancy firm, and
is based in Singapore. In his work BH consults with and coaches business
leaders at senior executive level, individually, as well as in their
teams. The emphasis is placed on personal growth and effectiveness,
aiming at bringing greater value to the organizations. BH also advises
executive teams of many large companies, more specifically in the area
of large-scale cultural transformation. Prior to becoming an executive
coach BH was a business executive. He has more than 20 years of
international leadership experience. He worked extensively in many parts
of Asia, including in China, India, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. He was
also active in the USA and in Western Europe. Between managing
businesses and coaching executives, BH prefers the latter; his guiding
principle is "People first, products and profit will follow."
Education-wise BH holds an undergraduate degree in mechanical
engineering from the University of Singapore. Currently in the final
stage of completing his MPhil program, he will then proceed directly
into his PhD-curriculum, at our Graduate School. His focal area is in
executive coaching in leadership development. BH attended and lectured
in our 2005 Summer-program in Brussels. Being an exceptional
program-participant he received an Outstanding Scholar Award in 2004.
Finally, he writes widely for the Singapore business press, mainly on
leadership issues and realities.
Jean-Pierre Bal, the Graduate School's
founder, adds: "I'm very proud that Martha Jo and BH accepted my
invitation to join our faculty. They are among the finest leaders, and
dynamic and sharing persons, that I have met in my career. To develop a
learning relationship with them is an immense pleasure. I also know that
our program-participants appreciate both of them at least as much as I
do".
