1. Leadership, an Art - "A School, A Work of Art"
2. Module - Responsible Creativity in Leadership
-- Brussels, 17 April 2006
"A School, a Work of Art (pre-press excerpt ) Professor Bal, founder of the Graduate School, was
recently interviewed by the editor-publisher of a European art-magazine.
Apart from his primary professional activity as a leadership educator,
Professor Bal is also active in painting, the activity the interview
focused on. During the meeting the editor asked which working
conditions, environment or drives prevail in the creative process,
and which of his own works the artist found to be the major ones. The
reply was : "My major work of art ?.. It is found in
another field, where many people are involved during the work, the field
is leadership, the art of leadership. That one work takes a lifetime to
make, it is a shared one, with all the people, the artists, that
contribute to it. It is dynamic, vibrant, it cannot be affixed onto a
wall. It is the Thierry Graduate School of Leadership (...) It is far
more difficult than painting (...) You can only rarely chose the ideal
working conditions or environment. That happens for all organisations,
and in life in general. It requires flexibility, imagination (...) you
make a painting together, that's very difficult, each person has his or
her own talents, all talents together are of wide-ranging diversity,
it's such an extraordinary process (...)." (full
article to be published in the course of this year).
