Twin Curriculum: Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Advanced Leadership Studies, and the PhD Degree Programme in Leadership (and Mastery of Change)
Programme design, attendance modes, and duration.
In the Twin Curriculum each participant's programme is personalised, by adding sets of learning and development goals, and materials that complement the established vortex curriculum. The entire curriculum therewith meets the specific needs and expectations of each future graduate, Ph.D. candidate to become. In the Twin Curriculum the existing full-time (or part-time) professional employment of the participant is combined with his/her part-time postgraduate studies (the programme is not designed for continuous full-time study). In all of the programmes offered at our institution the earning of course-credits can only be achieved through successful completion of the courses and examinations in the curriculum (no credits for work experience equivalency).
The programme content, as well as the mode of learning, the research, teaching, and action-leadership, are agreed upon by the participants and his (her) advisor/mentor. Depending on the place of residence, personal preferences, or organisational role of the participant, the Twin PGD + PhD Curriculum is currently offered in four possible (e-)attendance modes:
Mode #1. For all international participants, distance education: online e-coached mode, plus Summer residential module(s). This mode is aimed at participants who reside around the globe. The course guidance is offered via phone, written feedback to examinations, and email/internet (e-mentoring). In order to meet the specific requirements in the Pedagogical Skills pillar, the participant is also expected to teach/lecture at least 45 hours at an educational institution in his/her country of residence (and/or in pre-approved training and development environments or organisations). Attending at least one full THIERRY residential summer-programme(s) is also required for all Twin Curriculum participants. The summer institutes are held each year, usually in the month of July (two weeks).
Mode #2. One-to-one coaching, for participants in Western Europe: online, with the possibility of having one-on-one coaching (if not, the e-coached mode #1 applies, or a blend of modes # 1 and 2). Mode #2 is offered only to participants who already live/work in certain countries of Western Europe (Belgium, France, Holland, Germany, Luxembourg mainly), and contingent on travel convenience (means, distance, and commuting time required). The two-weeks' Summer residence is also required for participants in mode #2 (in-seminar hotel-residence is optional for commuters). All other programme components are identical to mode #1 above.
Mode #3. Top-level executives (CEOs) and heads of government or public organisations: fully customised mode, incl. personalised seminars in the country of residence, and possible videoconferencing. This mode is offered only to participants who combine portions of the Twin Curriculum with their Chronos programme. Attendance of the Summer residential programme in Belgium is optional.
Mode #4. (as of 2010). Joint-programmes, partner- or affiliated institutions > in-class (residence), or online, or hybrid, depending on the terms of the cooperative or affiliation agreement, and on the availability of on-campus and/or e-based faculty members.
Duration of the programme
Considering
that courses are attended on a part-time basis (concurrent with one's career) the
PGD portion of the Twin Curriculum will take approx. three
calendar years (36 months) to complete, with a possibility of a twelve
months (fourth year), or twenty-four months (fifth year) extension. While the school supports the life long
learning educational concepts, and the pertaining accumulation of course credits over
longer time-spans, in terms of pedagogical and cognitive
effectiveness it is recommended that the PGD portion of the programme be completed in
maximum four
years. For the subsequent PhD, and depending
on the educational institution where it is undertaken, approximately 12 to 18 months
are required to complete research, thesis (dissertation), and
possible other requirements (the maximum would be
approx. 24 months). The completion
time-estimates apply to Modes #1 and 2 only
(for Modes #3 and #4 there is a different flow and timing).
