PhD in Leadership and Mastery of Change
Programme design, attendance modes, and duration.
Each
doctorate participant's programme is personalised, and to a high degree. Its
design meets the specific goals, needs and expectations of each candidate.
In this process the core-curriculum is embedded into the participant's
total curriculum. Our PhD is also of a dual-track type, combining an
existing full-time (or part-time) professional employment of the
participant with his/her doctorate studies. Most
of curriculum components require a self-led timing of opportunities
and environments for learning. The coursework, composed of the best
materials available in the world, is
In accordance with the Four Pillars framework, the programme content, as well as the mode of learning, the research, teaching, and action-leadership, are agreed upon by the doctoral student/candidate and his (her) advisor/mentor. Depending on the place of residence, personal preferences, or organisational role of the participant, the Thierry PhD is offered in the following three modes:
Mode #1. International participants > online e-coached mode, plus Summer residential module(s): This mode is aimed at participants who reside around the globe. The course guidance is offered via phone, written feedback, and email (e-mentoring). In order to meet the specific requirements in the Pedagogical Skills pillar, the doctorate participants/candidates are expected to teach/lecture at a university in their country of residence (and/or in pre-approved training and development environments or organisations). The participation in at least one of the THIERRY residential summer-programme(s) is also required for all PhD participants. The summer institutes are held in Belgium each year, during two weeks of the month of July.
Mode #2. Participants living in or near Belgium > online plus one-on-one coaching mode, plus summer residential institute(s): This mode is offered only to PhD-participants who already live/work in/near Belgium prior to their programme admission. In this hybrid version of our PhD there are online-based courses, combined with one-on-one (face-to-face) coaching. The THIERRY international summer module is also required for participants in mode #2 (in-seminar hotel-residence is optional). All other programme components are identical to mode #1 above.
Mode #3. Top-level executives (CEOs) and heads of government or public organisations > fully customised mode, plus personalised seminars in the country of residence. This mode is offered only to a participant who was first admitted into the Coryphaeus programme, then expressed the wish to pursue the doctorate programme instead. Attendance of the Summer residential programme in Belgium is possible (optional).
Duration of the programme
The
length of the entire programme, including the thesis is 3½ to 4½ academic years, or 32 to 42 calendar-months on a continuous
basis (except if prior masters degree in leadership). Completion of
the core curriculum (composed of Pillars 1, 2 and 3) requires 20 to
26 months. The field-project (Pillar 4) plus the thesis (doctorate dissertation), require approx. 12 to 18 months (with a maximum of
24 months). The aforementioned time-estimates apply to Modes # 1 and 2 only
(for Mode #3 there is a different flow and timeline).
