PhD in Leadership and Mastery of Change

Tuition Fees

·  The norm-level for the full Ph.D. course-curriculum (Four Pillars) at THIERRY is EURO 36.990 (approx. US$ 48,000). The level is per 1 January 2007, valid until further notice, and applicable to Modes #1 and 2 only.

(Programme in Mode #3, Coryphaeus alternate, please contact the Directorate directorate@thierryschool.be)

·  For the Modes #1 and 2 there is a structural grant system. The actual tuition fees are lower than the norm-level, and are tied to the total yearly tuition reductions' budget allocated to the PhD-unit of the Graduate School. Other forms of tuition reduction (grants) are arranged via the TuitionBridge system of the Graduate School. In order to qualify for any form of tuition reduction an early application for admission into the programme is required.

·  Admitted PhD-applicants from low and middle-income countries qualify for an additional grant offered through the Augendo support-system of our Graduate School.

Fee details:
(Modes #1 and 2)

· Are included in the total tuition fees, the (e-)tuition itself, and the cost of all learning materials in the curriculum. The learning materials are supplied online, via the personal web-folder of each PhD participant. There are no extra charges or surcharges for programme-related expenditures such as individual matriculation (student ID), online access, doctoral guidance, phone or face-to-face coaching, examinations, or degree issuance fees.

· There are no extra fees for the viva, but the candidate's cost of travel to Belgium will not be borne by the Graduate School. There is a separate procedure if the candidate requested the option that his/her viva be held in his/her home-country or country of residence. If the option has been approved by the Directorate, and by the guest/partner institution (inter-collegiate jury, cotutelle, fellowship, ...), and if Graduate Schools thesis supervisor agrees to travel to the candidate's country, the cost-sharing of the travel will be agreed upon on a case by case basis (this procedure enters into effect as of March 2007).

·  Additional research materials are also made available at no extra cost, via the Graduate School's Directorate library, or online (in the form of document-clusters) through the School's e-library (including a number of other Thierry-resources such as, for instance, Enguerran's Odyssey).

· Yearly increases in tuition fee levels do not apply when a participant (1) regularly attended the programme during the previous academic year(s); (2) complied with all academic regulations; and (3) completes his entire curriculum and thesis within the 48 months subsequent to the date of his/her programme-start.

·  There are no supplemental Summer tuition fees for the Thierry PhD participants who (co-)lecture for an agreed number of hours during the Summer-seminar(s) organised by the School. However, the costs of travel, residence (lodging, meals), health insurance, leisure, etc, in relation to the Summer seminars (organised by the School) are borne by the programme-participant (and/or his/her sponsor).

· The cost of supplemental textbooks, extra research materials,... a participant wishes to purchase, as well as other activities, such as external seminars involving  travel costs and related expenses, are borne solely by the participant (and/or his/her sponsor).

Payment of fees:   (Modes #1 and 2)

· Tuition fees are due in three equal instalments. The first one is due before the start of the programme (see also next paragraph). The other two parts are due at preset dates that depend on the actual length (duration) of the individual programme. In general the next payments are due at approx. 12 months and 24 months after the start of the programme. An alternate instalment-plan can be granted, on a proven needs basis.

· An admission confirmation-fee (tuition advance deposit) of EURO 1.500 is due as soon as the admission is confirmed. This amount will subsequently be deducted from the first instalment.

· To receive information about your eligibility to obtain a tuition fee reduction/grant, please contact Prof. J.P. Bal at  Email : phd@thierryschool.be  or  directorate@thierryschool.be
