Andrea Derler Cape Researcher, Class of 2006 MPhil Alumna, PhD Candidate at our Graduate School. Specialty areas: Authentic Leadership, and Performance Consulting
Prior to her career in the training field, Andrea was active in the United Kingdom, as a business executive for a leading British bank; prior to that as an account executive for a major American industrial corporation, and as an assistant sales manager for a medium-sized company. At the early stage of her career, during her college studies, she was the branch manager of a family business in Austria, a job she coupled with professional photography, one of her hobbies.
By her active
and continuing involvement in the business environment she came to the
realisation that active leadership and performance are inseparable. This
triggered her decision to deepen her knowledge about leadership. Andrea’s
latest work at THIERRY is in the domain of Ethics in Leadership. In her
MPhil thesis she focused on the topic of Authentic Leadership. Her credo
emphasizes the necessity for constant professional and personal growth of
leaders, in favor of their organizations and the people they work with. In
her papers Andrea develops the concept of Five Dimensions of Authentic
Leadership. She challenges leaders, as well as other individuals
in the organizations, to find an adequate balance between the striving for change
and the need to remain true to
one’s
Andrea's initial qualifications are in Philosophy; she holds a Bachelor's and a Masters degree in that field, from the Karl Franzens University in Graz, Austria. In 2006 she earned her Master of Philosophy in Leadership Studies degree from our Graduate School, and has meanwhile embarked on her PhD degree-program. Andrea also attended our 2004 and 2005 Summer residential programs in Brussels.
Overall
Andrea gained considerable
work experience in the business environment,
including in large corporations. Her passion as a training performance
consultant and coach is focused on small and medium size
organizations, as well as for start-ups where young entrepreneurs - men and
women alike - engage into leadership roles.
