Specialty area: Executive Coaching in Leadership Development 

BH Tan is a leading executive coach and leadership consultant in Asia. He specializes in leadership development in culturally-diverse environments. As a certified coach he has to this date successfully delivered countless hours of professional coaching with corporate clients. He leads his own consultancy firm, and is based in Singapore. 

In his work BH consults with and coaches business leaders at senior executive level, individually, as well as in their teams. The emphasis is placed on personal growth and effectiveness, aiming at bringing greater value to the organizations. BH also advises executive teams of many large companies, more specifically in the area of large-scale cultural transformation .

Prior to becoming an executive coach BH was a business executive. He has more than 20 years of international leadership experience. He worked extensively in many parts of  Asia, including various ASEAN countries such as China, India, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. He was also active in the USA and in Western Europe.

Between managing businesses and coaching executives, BH prefers the latter. In  the early days of his career he used to think as many corporate executives do: "that what gets measured, gets done." BH knows better now. He has learnt what Einstein admonished years ago, namely:  “Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.” BH's guiding principle therefore is, "People first, products and profit will follow." 

Education-wise BH holds an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Singapore. In 2005 he completed and earned his MPhil degree in leadership studies from our Graduate School, and in 2008 his doctorate degree in leadership and mastery of change. His focal area is in executive leadership development and coaching. 

BH attended and lectured in our 2005, 2007, and 2008 Summer programs in Brussels and Louvain-La-Neuve (picture of the 2005 Summer, with a few fellow participants).  Finally, BH writes widely for the Singapore business press, mainly on leadership issues and realities.
