Martha Jo Braycich

Martha Jo Braycich is the Director, Communications and Media Relations, at Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia. In January 2008 she earned her doctorate degree in leadership, having completed the postgraduate curriculum and thesis (dissertation) at our Graduate School. Martha Jo's career includes experience in the corporate, international trade association, and non-governmental sectors as well as in journalism. Throughout her career she has developed and managed a wide range of multicultural communications programs. She also has an interest and expertise in Eastern Europe. 

 

Martha Jo  was born in the United States, has lived in many countries throughout her life, and is based in Brussels since many years.  

 

In her current position at Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia, a respected international NGO that provides sports training and competition for people with intellectual disabilities, she oversees the strategic communications of a region that includes 57 countries. She also manages organizational development projects in the Balkans and the Caucasus.

 

Martha Jo holds a BA degree in political science from Boston University (USA), and an MA in international relations from Schiller University (Paris, France). Subsequently, and prior to completing her PhD studies, she completed the coursework of a program previously offered by our School at another institution in Brussels. She there earned a post-graduate certificate in leadership and change, and subsequently earned a capstone certificate from our Graduate School.  

 

During her PhD candidacy Martha Jo blended the doctoral curriculum work with her professional career. The focus of her ongoing action-oriented research is on the effectiveness of NGO-leadership in Russia. Martha Jo also attended and lectured during four successive editions of our yearly residential summer seminar programme (held in Brussels and Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium). She has talked on "Project leadership in a post-conflict country:  Creating shared vision and cooperation – the case of Special Olympics Bosnia and Herzegovina", and on "Emerging Leaders at community-level: Special Olympics Russia". Her educational contributions have received wide acclaim from fellow students and faculty alike.
