Our School's Educational Role and Leadership Development Programmes

Meeting the leadership needs in organisations or society in general

All organisations, regardless of their size or nature, rely on effective leadership to reach their objectives. In our 21st century a number of "ways and means" used in the past no longer meet the many new challenges. The finding and the adoption of  "renaissance" approaches to leadership is an omnipresent need, not to say: a societal reality.

All our School's leadership development programmes, whether degree ones or not, meet the critical requirement that even experienced leaders posses most if not all of the expected skills and competencies for initiating and leading, or mastering, positive change processes. Leadership is a distinctive field of study and practice. Not often is leading a straightforward process; sometimes it is very confusing. Also, it encompasses many fields. To name a few: human behaviour; management; global business climates; strategy; evolving social systems; ethics and responsibilities,...  Self-mastery is equally important; in their careers all leaders face ambiguity, conflict, decision gridlock, crisis situations,... and far more often than generally thought.

Intercontinental and interdisciplinary inspiration and resources

Extensive research has preceded the launch of our curricula, and continuous improvement pervades. Often held in high regard, our programmes are pioneers in their field, truly unique in Europe and in the world. There may seem to be a similarity between our leadership curricula and the effect  generated by the "global" economy on "local" markets. It is actually quite the opposite; our leadership courses and programmes borrow from "regional" approaches, found around the world. Rooted in the blended soil of learning concepts that originate from, mainly, Europe, North-America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, our Belgium-based Graduate School emerges as the synergy of the intercontinental schools of leadership thought, learning and practice. This cross-cultural and interdisciplinary approach to leadership learning lies at the basis of the continuous developmental improvement process. It is a capstone-expertise of our graduates, who lead locally, across nations, or even across continents.

Leading-edge programmes, as a complement to "technical" studies

Our programmes are an invaluable complement to the curricula and pertaining degrees found in other domains and disciplines of study. For example in business management and public administration studies, where the (under)graduate programmes offer a valuable "technical" background in various functional fields, but very seldom contain a comprehensive framework for the development of leadership competencies. Leadership is, quite clearly,  learned - and "taught" - in a different way: the emphasis is, amongst a number of factors, placed on the (inter-)personal, influential and evolutionary sides in man-led organisations. Many experts agree that the THIERRY programmes contain the indispensable learning tools required for successfully leading teams and organisations, and in a sustainable manner.

The Individual Objectives

Learning how to lead, how to be a better leader, learning excellence in leadership...

In line with our mission, educational role for individuals, organisations, and for society in general, student-centredness is a top priority we continuously focus upon. This aim is further highlighted in the next section, about the Individual Objectives of each programme-participant.

"“In your training, do not be in a hurry, for it takes a minimum of ten years to master the basics and advance to the first rung. Never think of yourself as an all-knowing, perfected master; you must continue to train daily with your friends and students and progress together in the art of peace.” --  Morihei Ueshiba  (on the learning of a martial art)
